We have a Makerbot Replicator + 3D printer at our library! You can print your own 3D designs or print out a project you found online! Curious about our printer? Here are some frequently asked questions:

Can I make my own 3D design?

You can create your own design using a variety of 3D software like AutoCAD or Blender. If you're a beginner and looking for a great place to start try out TinkerCad. Its a free online software that teaches you the basics of building in 3D.  The website is TinkerCad.com and all you need to start is an email address no download required and you can use it anywhere.  

Can I print 3D designs I find online?

Yes you can! Thingiverse is a great place to find designs others in the 3D design community have posted. There are others sites as well just make sure the file you find is available in STL format for printing. 

We are not able to print replica guns or weapons.

What kind of 3D printer do you have?

We have a Makerbot Replicator + 3D printer.

How much does it cost to print?

Printing in plastic can be relatively inexpensive. The cost is $0.15/gram of filament used and total cost depends on the size of your project, the density of the infill, and the supports required to print it. 

We will email a cost quote for your approval before beginning the print job. All projects with a total cost of $5.00 and over must be prepaid by cash or debit at the library before we can commence printing. 

How long does it take to print a project?

It can take anywhere from 25 minutes to 24 hours or more depending on the project and the number of pieces. Our 3D printer is pretty popular, too, so plan ahead. Our current waiting period is about 12 days.

Can I print in multiple colours?

Our printer can only print in one solid colour but we have a bunch to choose from. There is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, beige, grey and black. If you want to make something in multiple colours you can print the project in white and paint over it in acrylic paint.

How large can I print something?

The largest size that we can print in one piece is 28 cm length x 19 cm width x 16 cm height. Still you can print larger projects in pieces and connect them together if it will not print within that size.
