Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to get a Library Card?

All you have to do is fill out one of our application form in person or online. If you fill out the form in person, we will make up your library card right away and as soon as we give it to you, you can start checking things out. Of you go through our website and apply online, we will send you an email saying that your library card has been processed and is ready to be picked up.

Does a Library card cost anything?

NO!! If you live in either Innisfail or Red Deer County library cards are free with us.

Do you have any eResources?

Yes, we have eBooks, eAudio Books, eMagazines, newpapers, and more. All available with your library card. Just visit website under the eLibrary page to find out everything we have to affer without even coming through our doors!

Can I get an item if it is not in my library?

If we do not have it in our library, it can be request in from one of the 48 other libraries in the Parkland Regional Library System.

How do I place a request?

There are a couple of different ways to place a request: in person, by phone, or online.

In person and by phone are very similar process, you tell us your name and what you are looking for and we will request it in for you.

Online you go onto our website and look up what you want and then you click the request button. It will ask you for your barcode number off the back of your card and it will ask for a password that we have set up for you as the last 4 digits of your phone number. 

If you are having trouble finding what you are looking for just let us know and we can probably get it for you.

When the requested item comes in how will I know?

We will notify you when our items are ready for pick up. Depending on how your notification settings on your account at set up, you will either get an email or a phone call letting you know that your items have come in.

Where will the holds be when I come in to pick them up?

All holds are held behind the circulation desk and you just have to ask to pick them up and give us your name.

How do I get my books?

Library Pickup

Materials can be picked up in the library during our regular operating hours.

Loan Period

All items can be checked out for 3 weeks.

Renewals

You can renew items in person, by phone, or online. Items can be renewed a maximum of 5 times.

You will not be able to renew something if:

  • if the item is requested by another patron

  • if you have accumulated overdue fees over $25

  • on external Interlibrary Loans from outside of Parkland Regional Libraries

Extended loan periods are possible on certain items, if you will be away on holidays, are ill for an extended period, etc. Ask for an extension before the item is due.

Returns

Library materials can be returned to any library in the Parkland Regional Library System!

We accept materials in our outside book drop, which is a metal hatch located on the side of the building closest to the library. If you are ever unable to return your items, please let us know and we will work with you to either adjust you r due date or make other arrangements for their return.

Overdue Items & Fines

You are responsible for all items borrowed on your card and any juvenile cards on your family account. Overdue fees are $0.25 per day per item. When an item is 6 weeks overdue, the item will automatically be marked as lost and your account will show a charge for replacement cost of the item. Borrower cards are temporarily suspended if fines are $25 or over.

Are your Programs Free?

All of our programs are free unless indicated.

Do you have to register for programs?

Yes there are programs that you do have to pre-register for. It will always be indicated on our programs calendar, our program posters and on our website. The programs that you need to register for are usually the programs that we have to buy very specific supplies for them. Adult Craft Night and Crafternoon are just two examples of a program that we ask you to pre-register for.

An ever changing offering of programs for all ages and interests can be found on our website and a monthly programs calendar is always available at our circulation desk.

Other Services

We have public computer stations available for anyone to use, and FREE WiFi.

Printing and copying is $0.25 per page and faxing starts at $1 first 2 pages locally.
